Majority Policy Committee, Drucker hold hearing on redistricting
BERWYN, Jan. 28 – The House Majority Policy Committee held a public hearing today in Berwyn to investigate the issue of redistricting in Pennsylvania, according to committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster.
Local state lawmaker, Rep. Paul Drucker, D-Chester/Montgomery, requested the hearing and served as co-chairman.
"I applaud Representative Drucker for requesting this hearing to draw attention to the topic and allowing the committee to hear from experts," Sturla said. "Redistricting is an important issue that is fundamental to the way the state legislature operates. We are fortunate to have House State Government Committee Chairman Babette Josephs effectively monitoring this subject with Representative Drucker."
Drucker added, "This hearing was a great opportunity to gain input from the public about this complex issue. Today’s testimonies were useful in helping me move forward with my efforts to create redistricting reform in Pennsylvania."
Testifiers included Sara Steelman, vice chairman of issues for Common Cause of Pennsylvania; Scott Casper, director of the Office of Demographic Analysis, Pennsylvania House Democratic Caucus; and a panel from the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania: Olivia Thorne, president, and Lora Lavin, vice president for issues and actions.
