Democratic Policy Committee to hold public hearing
on state liquor store privatization Tuesday in McKeesport
HARRISBURG, March 21 – House Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, announced today that the committee will hold a public hearing on the issue of liquor store privatization from 1 p.m. to 3:30p.m. Tuesday, March 22 at the McKeesport Palisades, 501 Water St., McKeesport.
State Rep. Marc Gergely, D-Allegheny, will co-chair the hearing, and Democratic chairman of the House Liquor Control Committee, Rep. Dante Santoni, D-Berks, will also be in attendance.
The current hearing agenda is:
- 1 p.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
- 1:10 p.m. – Ed Cloonan, former president, executive director and store manager (retired), Independent State Store Union
- 1:40 p.m. – Antony Davies, professor, Duquesne University
- 2:10 p.m. – Panel from United Food and Commercial Workers: Wendell Young, president, UFCW 1776; and Tony Helfer, president, UFCW 23
- 2:40 p.m. – Rev. Ron Wanless, board of directors, United Methodist Advocacy of Pennsylvania
- 3:10 p.m. – Closing remarks
The hearing is open to the public and media coverage is invited.
