HARRISBURG, April 7 – The House Majority Policy Committee held a public hearing today at the state Capitol about the progress of basic education funding reform, according to committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster.
"Today was a great opportunity for our newer members to learn about Pennsylvania’s school finance history and fundamentals while the Committee received a progress update on basic education’s costing out study reform," Sturla said. "It appears that our Commonwealth is on the right track and we must continue to follow the six-year plan to ensure effective funding reform."
Those testifying included Ron Cowell, president, The Education Policy and Leadership Center; Robert Feir, president, EdStrat21; Joe Bard, executive director, Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools; Eric Elliott, assistant director of research, Pennsylvania State Education Association; and Michael Churchill, attorney, Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia.
"I know House Education Committee Chairman Jim Roebuck will continue to do an effective job on this issue, and he will make sure that we stay updated on it," Sturla said.
