Majority Policy Committee to hold public hearing in Philadelphia Thursday
on higher education as an industry
HARRISBURG, April 13 – Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, announced today that the House Majority Policy Committee will hold a public hearing on higher education as an industry from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the University City Science Center, Suite 800, Fuller Conference Room A & B, 3711 Market St., Philadelphia.
The hearing will focus on the economic development impact of higher education institutions in Pennsylvania. It will be co-chaired by state Rep. James Roebuck, D-Phila., who serves as chairman of the House Education Committee.
The current hearing agenda is:
· 1 p.m. – Welcome and opening remarks by Sturla and Roebuck
· 1:10 p.m. – Craig Carnaroli, executive vice president, University of Pennsylvania
· 1:25 p.m. – Dr. Chris Fiorentino, dean of College of Business and Public Affairs, West Chester University
· 1:40 p.m. – Panel from Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania: Mary Young, vice president for government relations; Ron Uroda, vice president for research
· 1:55 p.m. – Dr. Stephen Curtis, president, Community College of Philadelphia
· 2:10 p.m. – Elizabeth Barber, associate dean of School of Tourism & Hospitality Management, Temple University
· 2:25 p.m. – Lou Mayer, chief financial officer, Saint Joseph’s University
· 2:40 p.m. – Dr. Matthew Schure, president/CEO, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
· 2:55 p.m. – Closing remarks
The hearing is open to the public and media coverage is invited.
