Majority Policy Committee examines the economy and job creation

HARRISBURG, April 14 – The House Majority Policy Committee held a public hearing today at the state Capitol about jobs and the economy, according to committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster.

"Our hearing today provided important insights from statewide policy groups about Pennsylvania’s economy and how to best create jobs in this challenging business climate," Sturla said. "We have only scratched the surface on this issue, especially since it is a top priority of the House Democrats. Fortunately, Chairman Daley will be very active on economic development matters with the House Commerce Committee this session."

The hearing was co-chaired by state Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, who serves as chairman of the House Commerce Committee.

Daley added, "I appreciate today’s testimony from the various perspectives. I am actually planning a series of House Commerce Committee hearings all over the state to develop comprehensive strategies that will serve as a solution to the Pennsylvania’s economic development problems."

Hearing testifiers included a panel from the Keystone Research Center: Executive Director Stephen Herzenberg and labor economist Mark Price; Sharon Ward, executive director of the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center; Matthew Brouillette, president/CEO of the Commonwealth Foundation for Public Policy Alternatives; and Rich Stein, research director of the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia.
