Democratic Policy Committee to hold public hearing on air quality issues related to oil refineries Thursday in Philadelphia
HARRISBURG, April 20 – House Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, announced today that the committee will hold a public hearing on the issue of air quality and public safety related to oil refineries' use of hydrofluoric acid from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 21 at the University of Pennsylvania Irvine Auditorium’s Amado Recital Room, corner of 34th and Spruce streets, Philadelphia.
State Rep. Maria Donatucci, D-Delaware/Phila., requested and will co-chair the hearing.
The current hearing agenda is:
- 10 a.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
- 10:10 a.m. – Mike Bukowski, general manager, Sunoco Philadelphia Refinery
- 10:40 a.m. – Panel No. 1: Jim Savage, president, United Steelworkers Local Union 10-1; and Diane Heminway, health and safety specialist, United Steelworkers International Union Health and Safety Department
- 11:20 a.m. – Panel No. 2: Barbara Rahke, director, Philadelphia Project on Occupational Safety & Health; and Cathy Brady, community member and former oil worker
- Noon – Closing remarks
The hearing is open to the public.
