PHILADELPHIA, May 27 – The House Majority Policy Committee held a public hearing today at Temple University on human services, according to committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster.
"The vast range of services provided by DPW is oftentimes overlooked as evident by today’s hearing," Sturla said. "Secretary Richman and her employees should be applauded for their hard work, especially in caring for those most vulnerable – the poor, the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. I commend DPW for reducing the mental retardation waiting list, making autism achievements, and developing its early childhood mental health initiative."
Those testifying included Estelle Richman, secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare; Nancy Richey, parent and disability advocate; David Fine, parent and autism advocate; Michele Myers-Cepicka, executive director, The Alliance for Infants & Toddlers; and Ronald Brown, dean, Temple University’s College of Health Professions.
