Sturla calls on volunteers for Conestoga River cleanup June 9
LANCASTER, May 29 – State Rep. Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, today invited community volunteers to help him and local organizations clean up the Conestoga River from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 9.
Volunteers will meet on Conestoga Drive, behind Conestoga View on East King Street in Lancaster. Helpers must bring their own work gloves and shovels. To sign up, contact Pat Coller in Sturla’s district office at (717) 295-3157 or pcoller@pahouse.net.
“I encourage everyone to come out and help make our cleanup a success by keeping the Conestoga River beautiful, “Sturla said.
Sturla is co-sponsoring his traditional cleanup with the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority, the Lancaster County Conservancy, Franklin and Marshall College, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Sturla has introduced legislation (H.B. 328) that would establish a state “Adopt-A-River” program to help restore Pennsylvania’s rivers, spark interest in volunteerism and conserve natural resources. The state Department of Environmental Protection would administer the program and provide trash bags, safety information and assistance to volunteer groups.
Sturla’s bill is currently in the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.
