Democratic Policy Committee examines impact of state budget cuts
WILLIAMSPORT, July 11 – The House Democratic Policy Committee held a public hearing at Lycoming College today to examine the impact that state budget cuts are having in Pennsylvania's communities, Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, said.
State Rep. Rick Mirabito, D-Lycoming, served as the hearing's co-chairman.
"The effects of the Republican budget are being felt across the Commonwealth," Sturla said. "I thank Representative Mirabito for inviting the Policy Committee to visit Williamsport to hear from local residents and regional organizations and educators about how they've been impacted and how they're coping with the cuts."
“There are agencies and individuals all over Lycoming County who rely on the services funded through the state budget,” Mirabito said. “My concern is that rural Pennsylvania has been hurt by these budget cuts. It is critical we hear from members of the community as we need to continue our concerns through the next budget cycle.”
Those testifying at hearing included: Robert Grantier, superintendent, Loyalsock Township School District; Charlie Santangelo, chief financial officer, Susquehanna Health Systems; and Renee Sluzalis, executive director, Center for Independent Living.
