Democratic Policy Committee to hold public hearing on
Marcellus Shale Wednesday in Newtown
HARRISBURG, July 25 – House Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, announced today that the committee will hold a public hearing on Marcellus Shale issues from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in the Chancellor Center's Board Room, 30 N. Chancellor St., Newtown.
State Rep. Steve Santarsiero, D-Bucks, requested the hearing and will serve as co-chair. This hearing will mark the first legislative committee examination of the recently released report by the Governor’s Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission.
The current hearing agenda is:
- 10 a.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
- 10:10 a.m. – John Hanger, former secretary, state Department of Environmental Protection
- 10:40 a.m. – Panel #1: David Simcox and Edward Lignowski, co-creators of Marcellus Shale 8 Point Plan
- 11:10 a.m. – Panel #2: Tracy Carluccio, deputy director, Delaware Riverkeeper Network; and David Masur, director, PennEnvironment
- 11:50 a.m. – Panel #3: Michael Wood, research director, Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center; and Elizabeth Tatham, member, The League of Women Voters of Bucks County
- 12:30 p.m. – Closing remarks
The hearing is open to the public and media coverage is invited.
