Majority Policy Committee, O'Brien to hold public hearing on usage of antibiotics on livestock Tuesday in Harrisburg
HARRISBURG, Aug. 9 – Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, announced today that the House Majority Policy Committee will hold a public hearing on limiting the use of human antibiotics on healthy livestock to reduce the cases of antibiotic resistance in humans. The hearing will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10 in Room 140 Main Capitol.
State Rep. Mike O'Brien, D-Phila., who is introducing legislation on the issue, requested the hearing and will serve as co-chairman. The current agenda is:
· 2 p.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
· 2:10 p.m. – Dr. Ellen Silbergeld, professor, Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health
· 2:40 p.m. – Gary Swan, director of governmental affairs and communications, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau
