Belfanti announces recycling coordinator grant for Montour County

HARRISBURG, June 11 – State Rep. Robert E. Belfanti Jr. announced today that Montour County will receive a $5,000 state grant to reimburse 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator's salary and expenses.

The grant was awarded through the Department of Environmental Protection's County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program.

Belfanti said county recycling coordinators serve as a link between DEP and municipal recycling and waste reduction programs. The coordinators compile annual waste and recycling reports, organize waste collections, create and update waste management plans, and offer a range of other recycling support activities to communities.

"Recycling coordinators are important to the success of recycling efforts at the local and county level," Belfanti said. "A strong recycling effort not only helps the environment, but also makes an important contribution to local and state economic development."

Belfanti said the county recycling coordinator reimbursement grants are funded by a $2-per-ton fee on materials deposited at municipal landfills and resource recovery facilities in Pennsylvania.
