PHEAA offers online application for Summer State Grant program

HARRISBURG, June 17 – State Rep. Robert E. Belfanti Jr. said Pennsylvania college students seeking a State Grant for the summer semester may now apply online.

The online Summer State Grant application is available at www.PHEAA.org.

"Using the online grant application will save summer semester students time and they will get their grant notification sooner," Belfanti said. "The online application also has interactive features that provide assistance, help to eliminate errors, and allow applicants to communicate with PHEAA staff."

Belfanti said in the past, students attending school during the summer semester had to file a paper application with PHEAA, or their school provided a roster of summer semester students to PHEAA. All tracking and communication was done manually.

"The new online application makes the process easier and more efficient for both State Grant applicants and PHEAA staff," Belfanti said.

Belfanti said applicants for a 2008 Summer State Grant may choose to use either a traditional paper application or the new online version of the application. In 2009, all applicants will be required to use the online application.

Applicants for a Summer State Grant must already have completed a regular Pennsylvania State Grant application and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, in addition to filling out a Summer State Grant application. The deadline for the Summer State Grant application is Aug. 15.

More information about State Grants and other financial assistance through PHEAA is available at www.PHEAA.org.
