Gulf War bonus applications available in Smith's office
DUNMORE, April 29 – State Rep. Ken Smith, D-Lackawanna, announced that his constituent service office has applications for a program that gives bonuses to military veterans who served in the first Persian Gulf War.
Smith stated that to be eligible for the bonus program, a veteran must have served active duty in the Persian Gulf Theater of Operations between Aug. 2, 1990 and Aug. 31, 1991, and received the Southwest Asia Service Medal. In addition, a bonus applicant must have been a legal resident of Pennsylvania during the time of service and must have served under honorable conditions.
"I urge veterans who may qualify to visit my local office and get an application for the bonus program," Smith said. "I encourage all northeastern Pennsylvania veterans of the first Gulf War to look into the program."
Smith said the program provides veterans with $75 per month for each month they served in the war, up to a maximum of $525. In addition, the program pays $5,000 to prisoners of war and to the families of troops who died in active service in the 1990-91 Persian Gulf Conflict.
Smith's office is located at 1414 Monroe Ave., Dunmore. The telephone number is 570-342-2710.
The deadline to apply for the Gulf War bonus program is Aug. 31, 2015.
Smith welcomes constituents to visit his Web site at www.pahouse.com/KSmith for information on how to apply for the bonus program.
