Smith announces a $2.5 million grant
for Lackawanna County water and sewer project
HARRISBURG, July 15 – State Rep. Ken Smith, D-Lackawanna, announced that Scranton will receive a $2.5 million grant for a major water and sewer project through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
"The Commonwealth Financing Authority grant will allow officials in Scranton to adequately fund this project for an improved wastewater treatment system for area residents and businesses," Smith said.
The Sewer Authority of the City of Scranton will receive a $2.5 million H20 PA program grant to protect groundwater from a malfunctioning on-lot system, Smith said.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority administers and finances a variety of projects, including the H20 PA program. It also oversees other programs that use targeted state investments to attract private capital for economic development in all regions of the state.
The H2O PA Act, established by the General Assembly in July 2008, provides grants to municipalities or municipal authorities to assist with the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm water projects.
