Wansacz says time running out to apply for
Property Tax/Rent Rebate program
OLD FORGE, Nov. 16 – State Rep. Jim Wansacz is reminding local seniors and others who may qualify for property tax relief that the deadline to apply for this year’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is Dec. 31.
“This is the first year the program has offered expanded income guidelines – so if you have been close to qualifying in the past but made just a little too much money, you may qualify now,” Wansacz said. “I am encouraging residents to contact my office if they have any questions about the new guidelines.”
Under the expanded eligibility guidelines, homeowners whose household income is up to $35,000 and renters with income of up to $15,000 can receive up to $650 back from the state. When determining income eligibility, Wansacz said that seniors have to calculate only half of their Social Security benefits.
To qualify for the program, residents must be 65 or older, 50 or older and widowed, or 18 or older with a permanent disability. The program is funded by the state lottery, not tax dollars.
Last year’s participants should have
received an application in the mail; people who have not applied before or
those who need help with their applications should contact Wansacz’s Old Forge constituent
service office at 108 S. Main St. or call toll free 877-295-4937.
