NAFR names Staback 'Legislator of the Year'
HARRISBURG, Feb. 8 – Rep. Edward G. Staback, D-Lackawanna/Wayne, recently was named the 2007 Legislator of the Year by the National Association of Firearms Retailers, the nation's largest organization representing federally licensed firearms retailers. Staback received the award at the firearms industry's annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show. NAFR is a division of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
Staback said he was honored to be the first Pennsylvanian to receive this national award.
"I am proud to lead the effort here in Pennsylvania to promote our nation's shooting sports and to protect our rights as gun owners – rights that are guaranteed by the Second Amendment," Staback said.
The NAFR praised Staback's effort to protect the livelihood of law-abiding firearms retailers throughout Pennsylvania. As chairman of the Game and Fisheries Committee, Staback demonstrated his support by playing a key role in the debate over one-gun-a-month legislation (H.B. 22) and working to resolve the Pennsylvania Instant Check System shutdown during the opening of the dove season, which threatened the livelihood of retailers throughout Pennsylvania.
Staback's leadership and influence was also critical in the fight to protect Pennsylvania's preemption law. The law prevents local governments from passing their own gun-control ordinances.
More information about NSSF is available on the organization's Web site at www.nssf.org. Residents can find out more about what Staback is doing to protect sportsmen and Pennsylvania's outdoor traditions at www.pahouse.com/Staback.
