Carroll: Local homeowners to receive property tax relief

HARRISBURG, May 1 – State Rep. Mike Carroll, D-Luzerne/Monroe, today announced that area homeowners will receive school property tax relief this summer from the state’s slots-funded Property Tax Relief Fund.

Estimates of property tax reductions in each Pennsylvania school district were made available today by the state Department of Education. According to DOE, area homeowners will receive the following estimated relief:

Pleasant Valley School District: $459

Pocono Mountain School District: $406

"This is welcome relief from the burden of high property taxes, and it’s just the beginning," Carroll said. "With more slots facilities opening soon, property tax cuts should be even more significant in future years."

The property tax reduction will be reflected on this summer’s school property tax bill.

Carroll said the slots distribution tax relief funds will be in addition to relief provided through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. He also reminded residents that June 30 is the deadline to apply for the program, which provides senior citizens 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities who are 18 or older with help paying their rent or property taxes. Residents may call Carroll’s Gilbert office at 610-681-2943 for assistance applying for the program.
