RE: Funding will help repair roads and bridges
The 2008-09 state budget includes nearly $2 billion in investments to repair the state's bridges, dams, railways and aviation facilities.
Under the Rebuild Pennsylvania program, a combination of federal and state funds will allow the Commonwealth to begin repairs on 411 structurally deficient bridges this year, including many in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania has made record investments for highway and bridge maintenance and construction over the last four years which will vastly improve our aging infrastructure while combating rising construction costs and decreased federal resources. The state has nearly 6,000 structurally deficient bridges and more than 8,500 miles of roads that are in need of repair. Safe roads and bridges are a high priority for me and this budget funding will go a long way toward repairing our most dangerous bridges and roadways.
Considering Monroe County’s growth during the past two decades, significant attention must be paid to our transportation infrastructure. The funding provided from Rebuild PA combined with the additional financial resources made available from Act 44 will accelerate transportation projects in our region and across the state. I will continue to work to advance vital highway and bridge projects in Monroe County to ensure the safe and efficient movement of all vehicles.
