Mullery: Local fire, ambulance companies receive
nearly $340,000 in state grants
HARRISBURG, March 26 – State Rep. Gerald Mullery announced that 35 volunteer fire departments and ambulance companies in the 119th Legislative District have received nearly $340,000 in grants from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
"Volunteer fire and ambulance companies are a vital part of our communities," said Mullery, D-Newport Township. "I'm pleased the state is giving them financial support for training, equipment, vehicles and buildings."
The grants were awarded through the Volunteer Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program in December. The annual program opens in September. When the application period closed in November, the fire commissioner's office received 2,542 applications from eligible fire and emergency service organizations. The office approved 2,529 applications.
