Yudichak: Area homeowners to receive property tax relief this summer
HARRISBURG, May 2 – State Rep. John Yudichak, D-Luzerne, today announced the state Department of Education’s estimates of tax relief that homeowners will receive this summer from the slots-funded property tax relief fund.
According to DOE, area homeowners in the below school districts will receive the following estimated relief:
Crestwood School District: $67
Greater Nanticoke School District: $152
Hanover Area School District: $214
Wilkes-Barre School District: $220
Wyoming Valley West School District: $153
"This is just the first installment," Yudichak said. "With more casinos slated to open, residents will receive even more property tax relief next year. Some senior citizens will have their property taxes eliminated completely when this amount is combined with the relief they receive through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program."
He also reminded residents that June 30 is the deadline to apply for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which provides seniors 65 and older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities who are 18 or older with help to pay rent or property taxes. Residents may call Yudichak’s office at 570-740-7031 for assistance in applying for the program.
