Mundy: Residents can help set Department of Aging agenda at local meeting
KINGSTON, Feb. 7 – State Rep. Phyllis Mundy is encouraging residents to attend an upcoming Department of Aging town hall meeting in Nanticoke and provide feedback on how services and programs for the elderly can be improved.
The meeting is part of a series the department is conducting throughout the state to update its State Plan on Aging. Federal and state law requires the department to update its aging plan every four years.
"These town hall meetings give residents a chance to speak on the availability of services and what improvements, if any, are needed in coming years," Mundy said. "Older Pennsylvanians and their caregivers are encouraged to attend and offer guidance during this process."
The Nanticoke meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Luzerne County Community College Educational Conference Center, 1333 S. Prospect St., Nanticoke. Contact 570-822-1159, ext. 2317, for more information.
Mundy said the meeting will cover topics including health-care awareness, long-term
living options and the prevention of abuse, neglect, exploitation and
abandonment.
"Pennsylvania has one of the largest elderly populations in the country, and some estimates show it will grow by as much as 13 percent by 2025. Examining the services we presently offer to older Pennsylvanians will help us handle the increasing demand."
Mundy said residents who cannot attend the meeting may submit written feedback to:
