Mundy: Listening sessions rescheduled
KINGSTON, Feb. 20 – State Rep. Phyllis Mundy is encouraging residents who are enrolled in the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s PDA Waiver and Attendant Care Waiver programs, their caregivers, and other interested members of the community to attend rescheduled listening sessions to provide feedback on the programs, which are up for renewal by the federal government in 2008.
Mundy said many residents were unable to attend the first sessions due to inclement weather. The rescheduled sessions will be held on Friday, Feb. 29 at Luzerne County Community College, Education Conference Center, Building 10 Auditorium, 1333 S. Prospect St., Nanticoke.
The morning session, from 10 a.m. to noon, will focus on the PDA Aging Waiver. The afternoon session, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will focus on the Attendance Care Waiver.
“These programs provide vital services to those who need assistance with some of the daily tasks that many of us take for granted,” Mundy said. “It’s important that those who participate in these programs let us know what’s working and what’s not so that any necessary changes can be considered.”
The PDA Waiver provides in-home services to residents 60 and older who have medical needs but wish to remain in their homes. Services include home health and personal care services, home support, adult day care, transportation, counseling, home-delivered meals and personal emergency response.
The Attendant Care Waiver program provides in-home personal care services to help mentally alert, physically disabled people who cannot perform daily living tasks by themselves. This program allows them to remain independent in their own homes. Basic services include getting in and out of a bed, wheelchair or motor vehicle, bathing and personal hygiene, dressing and grooming, and mealtimes and cleanup. Additionally, the program can help with activities such as shopping, laundry, seasonal chores, letter writing and reading mail.
Anyone who wishes to provide public comments at these sessions must call the Office of Long Term Living at 717-772-2525.
