Mundy announces Growing Greener grants awarded to Luzerne County

KINGSTON, March 11 – Luzerne County state Rep. Phyllis Mundy announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has awarded $189,051 in Growing Greener grant funding to the Luzerne County Conservation District.

The district will use the funding for two projects:

ü  $102,362 to repair damage to Toby Creek caused by flooding.

ü  $86,689 for watershed assessment for use in flood-mitigation planning.

"Local residents and businesses have endured extensive damage from flooding in recent years,” Mundy said. “This funding will help the conservation district further efforts to repair current damage and prevent damage in the future. Hopefully it is one of many rounds of grants Luzerne County will receive to address these concerns."

Mundy said Growing Greener is a voter-approved program that invests in cleaning up rivers and streams; protecting natural areas, open spaces and working farms; and shoring up key programs to revitalize communities and improve the quality of life across the Commonwealth.
