Mundy to honor local Vietnam vets at ceremony this Saturday

KINGSTON, May 12 – State Rep. Phyllis Mundy, D-Luzerne, plans to hold a Vietnam Veterans Recognition Ceremony on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17.

"My office has been working for months to reach out to local Vietnam veterans and their families so that their service to our country can be appreciated by the people of this Commonwealth," Mundy said.

"The Vietnam War evolved into the longest and most unpopular war America has ever fought, and its veterans know firsthand that freedom often comes at a terrible price."

At the ceremony, each veteran, or family member of a deceased veteran or one who is unable to attend the ceremony, will receive a House citation and medal.

"The medals and citations we’ll present at the ceremony are only a small token of thanks. Our veterans have handed down the spirit of courage to a new generation of men and women who today hold dear the ideals they defended with their lives," Mundy said.

Mundy said residents from the community are encouraged to attend to honor the veterans. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the West Side Area Vocational Technical School, located at 75 Evans St. in Pringle.
