Pashinski pleased with property tax relief for homeowners in 121st District
WILKES-BARRE, May 1 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski has announced that the state will provide school property tax relief to homeowners in the 121st Legislative District this year, now that slots revenues from the state's gaming facilities have reached the threshold needed for triggering relief.
Pashinski said the estimated property tax relief per homeowner in local school districts is above the state average of $190 and is as follows:
"Property tax reduction for homeowners in my district is welcome news because with the rising cost of household necessities, families are now getting financial relief on their school property tax," Pashinski said.
The Luzerne County legislator voted for gaming legislation in 2006 that was designed to reduce homeowners' property taxes.
Pashinski said this year's distribution is the first to be provided to all homeowners under the Taxpayer Relief Act. Last year, gaming revenues helped to expand the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to allow 540,000 Pennsylvania senior citizens to receive $234 million in property tax relief.
The Property Tax Relief Fund contains nearly $613 million, which will be distributed to the state's school districts for property tax reduction. The property tax reduction will be reflected in the school property tax bills homeowners receive this summer.
