Pashinski, Yudichak announce more than $1.3 million in grants
for Luzerne County water and sewer projects
HARRISBURG, July 15 – State Reps. Eddie Day Pashinski and John Yudichak, both D-Luzerne, announced that three Luzerne County municipalities will share in more than $1.3 million in grants for water and sewer projects through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
"We must continue to invest in the future of our cities and municipalities by providing adequate funding to protect our water resources and our people," Pashinski said.
The projects receiving H20 PA program grants are:
· The Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority will receive $1 million for modifications and additions to the treatment facility at the biological nutrient removal project in Hanover Township.
· The Truesdale Terrace and Witinski's Villa sanitary sewer project in Hanover Township will receive $198,000. The project will construct a sewer extension to Witinski's Villa and Truesdale Terrace from Warrior Run's collection system on Slope Street. The township is under a Department of Environmental Protection consent order and agreement dated May 12, 2008.
· Mountaintop Area Joint Sewer Authority will receive $162,350 to assist with the equalization tank project to increase the hydraulic capacity of the plant. The project involves constructing a 3-million-gallon glass-lined ductile iron equalization tank, replacing 15-inch and 24-inch piping and installing 24-inch valves in Wright Township.
"Properly designed and maintained infrastructure is important to the economic growth of Luzerne County. I am pleased the state is making such a major investment in these important sewer projects," Yudichak said.
The H2O PA Act, established by the General Assembly in July 2008, provides grants to municipalities or municipal authorities to assist with the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm water projects.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority administers and finances projects included in the H20 PA program. It also oversees other programs that use targeted state investment to attract private capital for economic development in all regions of the state.
