McCall: Taxpayers have two weeks left to file federal tax return and become eligible for stimulus payment

 

HARRISBURG, April 1 – State Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, said the annual Income Tax Day deadline is rapidly approaching and this year missing the deadline could mean also delaying the federal economic stimulus payment to be mailed out by the federal government.

 

"While this is a program from the federal government, a lot of people have been stopping by my offices in Lansford, Lehighton and Albrightsville with questions about the economic stimulus checks some Carbon County residents will be eligible to receive starting in May," McCall said. "The most important thing to remember is that you must file your 2007 tax return to receive your 2008 economic stimulus payment this spring – no exceptions."

 

Beginning in May, the federal government will send economic stimulus payments of between $300 and $1,200 to more than 130 million households across the U.S. There also is a $300-per-child payment for qualifying children younger than 17.

 

"Just file your taxes using the method you always do, whether you do it personally, online or have a tax professional prepare your returns. The IRS will determine eligibility, figure the amount and send the payment."
