McCall: Grants available to promote clean energy resources in Pa.
HARRISBURG, May 9 – State Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, is urging Carbon County consumers to apply for a share of more than $25 million in grants available from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
"These programs are there to help us grow our economy, achieve energy independence, and make it easier for consumers and businesses to develop and use advanced, clean energy resources," McCall said. "Local governments, school districts and businesses can expand the use of renewable energy in and around Carbon County while cutting back on energy costs through these grants, so I encourage interested residents to find out more."
McCall said applications are now available for the following DEP grants:
Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority -- Up to $11 million is available statewide to help local governments and first responders cope with rising energy costs and to ensure a secure energy supply for critical operations.
Alternative Fuels Incentive Grants -- $10 million is available to support energy security by investing in companies that produce and market homegrown biofuels and consumers that purchase hybrid vehicles. AFIG will help cover added costs by continuing the 5 cents per gallon production incentive for biofuels.
Energy Harvest -- Approximately $5 million is available to promote awareness and build markets for cleaner or renewable energy technologies, including renewable energy deployment, waste coal reclamation, deployment of innovative efficiency technologies and distributed generation projects.
Guidelines for submitting and a link for downloading applications can be found online at www.depweb.state.pa.us. The deadline for applications is June 20.
"These grants are all part of a comprehensive energy agenda we’re working on in Harrisburg to help adopt and advance clean energy resources by giving Pennsylvania consumers and power-generating utilities more tools to cut energy bills through conservation and investment in alternative energy."
