McCall: Lansford to receive $500,000 state grant for sewer project
HARRISBURG, June 5 – State Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, announced today that Lansford Borough will receive a $500,000 state grant to help pay for a storm sewer separation project.
The grant is from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
"Nothing is more important than protecting our water supply – keeping the clean water flowing in and the waste water flowing out for processing," McCall said. "Our authorities and municipalities are true unsung heroes at making sure we all have safe water to drink when we turn on the tap, and I was glad to work with them and do my part to bring home this funding.
"This $500,000 – the largest grant possible under the program – will help get the job done without requiring a rate increase for borough residents, and that’s good news for everyone."
"This news is wonderful. The grant is a relief to the taxpayers in regards to the total project cost for the storm sewer separation project," Lansford Borough Council President Robert Gaughan said. "The approval and receipt of the grant funding is yet another fine example of intergovernmental cooperation between local, county, state and federal governments and agencies. Thank you to everyone involved with the grant process from the initial application many years ago!"
"The Carbon County Redevelopment Authority would like to acknowledge the efforts of past Borough Council members, Rosemary Cannon and Gabe Fritz, for the many hours they contributed in the application process and making this application a success," Carbon County Redevelopment Authority Director Phyllis Bolton said. "We would also like to thank Representative McCall, Carbon County Commissioners, DCED officials, Nicole Tessitore and present Borough Council members for their efforts in making this project a reality."
The Community Development Block Grant Program offers funding and technical assistance to government entities for projects including housing rehabilitation, public services, community facilities and infrastructure improvement.
