McCall: Jim Thorpe borough to receive $500,000 grant for new building
HARRISBURG, July 16 – State Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, announced today that Jim Thorpe will receive $500,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to help pay for the cost of constructing a new borough building.
"The Jim Thorpe borough officials and employees have been doing an amazing job serving the residents with the resources they have, but it's long overdue for the borough to own their building, instead of renting," McCall said. "I was proud to work on the team with borough council and officials and make sure that DCED knew how important this building will be so we could bring home vital state funding for the project.
"This $500,000 – the largest grant possible under the program – will help save taxpayer money in the long run and make it easier for borough residents to get the services they deserve."
"This is great news and a great day for Jim Thorpe borough," Jim Thorpe borough Councilman Justin Yaich said. "We want to have the best facility possible to serve the people with 'one-stop shopping' for assistance, and more importantly, we want the taxpayers to own the building, not just pay rent."
McCall and Yaich were joined at the presentation by Jim Thorpe borough Council President John McGuire and Councilman Todd Mason, both of whom also served on the Building and Parks Committee Yaich chairs.
DCED offers funding and technical assistance to government entities for projects including housing rehabilitation, public services, community facilities and infrastructure improvement. To find out more about the agency and its programs, go to www.newpa.gov .
