Apply now for firefighter assistance grants!

The federal Department of Homeland Security is about to start accepting applications for the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grants. I'd like to make sure Schuylkill County's fire departments and EMS groups benefit from the $500 million in grants that will be awarded across the country.

There are two kinds of grants -- one for general operation and safety, and one for vehicles. You can submit two separate applications to be considered for either grant. Applications are also being taken for regional projects that would include multiple organizations and jurisdictions.

Applications are available online and there's a Help Desk that you can e-mail or call at 1-866-274-0960. Applications are due by April 4 at 5 p.m. Please don't wait too long!
