Goodman, Seip vote for 2010-11 budget
HARRISBURG, June 30 -- State Reps. Neal Goodman and Tim Seip today voted for a $28.05 billion budget for 2010-11 passed by the House of Representatives that does not include a broad-based tax increase and boosts the state's basic education funding by an average of 4.5 percent.
"The additional $250 million investment of state dollars toward basic education will help school districts in Schuylkill County and the rest of Pennsylvania keep property taxes in check," Goodman said. "I'm proud the state was able to make that investment without raising broad-based taxes."
Seip said, "While the nationwide recession that began in 2007 continues to affect Pennsylvania's economy and state revenues, we were able to reach an agreement that avoids raising broad-based taxes and funds most areas of the budget near last year's levels. I'm hopeful the Senate will keep its commitment to examine the much-needed Marcellus Shale gas extraction tax this fall. One of the highlights of this budget agreement is the $250 million in new funding for public education, which provides more than $3 million in increased state funding for the school districts I represent to help hold down school property taxes."
