Seip wants raffles for lifetime hunting and fishing licenses
Introducing bill aimed at helping fund Fish and Boat, Game commissions
HARRISBURG, May 2 – State Rep. Tim Seip will soon introduce two bills that would provide hunters and anglers with the chance to win lifetime hunting and fishing licenses.
“The Game Commission and the Fish and Boat Commission rely heavily on license purchases to fund their operating budgets. Both agencies are self-sustaining, a rare situation in Pennsylvania. I believe that this legislation would relieve some of the commissions' financial burden by providing them with another important source of revenue,” Seip said.
To ensure the legislation could achieve the intended outcome, it would be in effect for a four-year trial basis, Seip said.
People could buy tickets for either drawing, or both, that would select two winners for the respective lifetime licenses. The drawings would be held four times per year, and each ticket would be good for four consecutive drawings or until it was selected as a winner, whichever came first. Tickets would cost $6.50 for residents and $12.50 for nonresidents, said Seip, a member of the National Rifle Association and a staunch advocate for gun owners’ rights.
To comment on this proposal, constituents can send e-mail to Seip through his Web site, www.pahouse.com/Seip.
Seip represents the 125th Legislative District, which includes part of Pottsville and much of western and southern Schuylkill County, as well as four communities in Berks County: Centre and Tilden townships and Centerport and Leesport boroughs.
