Muhlenberg Township to get state grant for dam mitigation
HARRISBURG, April 30 – State Rep. Dante Santoni, D-Berks, today announced Muhlenberg Township will soon be awarded a $50,000 grant from the state to help in its efforts to remove two unsafe dams along the Schuylkill River.
Santoni said the township will use the grant to perform mitigation work that is required before the Department of Environmental Protection will approve a permit to remove the two DEP-owned dams that have been deemed a public safety hazard.
"Muhlenberg Township has been doing what it can to get these unsafe dams removed," Santoni said. "But local funds are tight. I am happy the state is getting more involved in helping the communities I represent improve public safety. This grant will go a long way in moving this project forward."
Santoni represents all of Muhlenberg Township.
