Berks homeowners to see property tax cuts in the hundreds
HARRISBURG, May 1 – State Rep. Dante Santoni, D-Berks, today announced that most homeowners in Berks County will see property tax reductions that are higher than the state average among tax cuts coming from Pennsylvania’s Property Tax Relief Fund this summer.
The Department of Education today released the estimated amount of property tax relief homeowners will receive in each of Pennsylvania’s school districts from the initial slots proceeds distribution.
"It is exciting to see this first distribution of revenue from gaming proceeds going to local homeowners," Santoni said. "I was pleased to vote for the legislation that got the ball rolling and am even happier it is coming to fruition.
"The relief will only get better as current and pending slot gaming sites continue to draw in money. The statewide projected average for this first round is $169, but the Berks County homeowners I represent will see more than that."
According DOE estimates, property tax relief for homeowners in Santoni’s district will range from $167 in Oley Valley School District to $193 in Muhlenberg to $236 in Antietam. Reading School District homeowners will see the highest amount, about $408, based on a formula that considers low local income as a factor.
Santoni said school districts will receive the slots money from the state and will use it to adjust homeowners’ property tax bills.
A complete list of property tax relief payouts by district is available on the DOE Web site at www.pde.state.pa.us/proptax.
