Caltagirone wants video draw poker in licensed clubs

HARRISBURG, June 18 -- State Rep. Tom Caltagirone, D-Berks, is introducing legislation that would allow clubs licensed under the Pennsylvania Liquor Code to operate video draw poker machines.

“I am a firm believer that these small games of chance, as they are called, would be of great financial help to struggling licensed clubs,” Caltagirone said. “Our social clubs need this boost to promote the charitable activities that are vital to our communities.”

The clubs would be allowed to operate no more than five video draw poker machines at the location of their licensed facilities. The machines would be connected to a central computer system to monitor all bets and payouts. The system would be run by the Department of Revenue’s Division of State Lottery.

The profit generated by the machines would be divided, with 60 percent going to the clubs, 10 percent to the municipality where the club is located and 30 percent to the state. The state’s share – after the cost of monitoring the machines was subtracted – would go toward school property tax relief.

Anyone with questions about the legislation may call Caltagirone’s Capitol office at 717-787-3525.
