House adopts Caltagirone resolution honoring Commonwealth Court of Pa.

HARRISBURG, June 23 – The House on Tuesday adopted a resolution (H.R. 851) introduced by state Rep. Thomas Caltagirone, D-Berks, honoring the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania for its 40th anniversary.

"It gives me great pleasure to honor the court because it has provided the people of the Commonwealth with an invaluable service for four decades, offering convenient access to specialized judicial expertise in cases involving state and local government," Caltagirone said.

Caltagirone said the court was established in 1970 as a result of the constitutional convention of 1967-1968 and is one of two intermediate appellate courts in Pennsylvania's Unified Judicial System.

"It remains to this day a completely unique state court, due to its specialized jurisdiction," he said. "No other state has created an appellate court that specializes in cases in which a unit of government is one of the parties."
