Caltagirone: Western Berks Water Authority to receive $3.1 million loan

HARRISBURG, July 14State Rep. Thomas Caltagirone, D-Berks, has announced that the Western Berks Water Authority will receive a loan for $3.1 million from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, known as Pennvest.

Caltagirone said the loan will be used to repair and replace faulty equipment at the authority, which serves roughly 27,500 homes in Berks County.

"This project will help protect the health of our residents by eliminating the hazards associated with outdated water delivery systems," Caltagirone said. "It will also provide a more reliable water source for fire protection throughout our area."

An independent state agency, Pennvest funds sewer, storm water and drinking water projects statewide through grants and loans to improve the environment and public health. Projects funded by Pennvest also improve opportunities for economic growth and create jobs for Pennsylvania workers.
