House Judiciary Committee approves six bills

 

HARRISBURG, Dec. 9 – State Rep. Tom Caltagirone, D-Berks, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said the committee today approved six bills, sending them to the full House of Representatives for consideration:  

 

House Bill 123, introduced by state Rep. John Evans, R-Crawford/Erie, would impose a criminal penalty on the owner or co-owner of a dog that injures a service dog used by an individual with a disability.

 

House Bill 751, introduced by state Rep. Kathy Watson, R-Bucks, would make it a third-degree felony for those in police custody to attempt or cause their bodily fluids to come into contact with anyone responsible for their supervision.

 

House Bill 1075, introduced by state Rep. Ronald G. Waters, D-Delaware/Phila., would require the Department of Corrections to test inmates prior to their release from prison for such diseases as staph infection, hepatitis, HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases. All test results would be provided to the inmates.

 

House Bill 1878, introduced by state Rep. Thomas H. Killion, R-Chester/Delaware, would increase penalties for the following offenses when they occur at private residential rehabilitative institutions: the possession of weapons; aggravated assault; criminal trespass; and solicitation of minors.

 

House Bill 2037, introduced by state Rep. James E. Casorio, D-Westmoreland, would ban the unauthorized sale, distribution and possession of a dangerous hallucinogenic substance called Salvia divinorum in Pennsylvania. The bill would classify the Salvia plant and its derivatives in Pennsylvania as a Schedule I controlled substance, making the illegal sale, possession or distribution of Salvia punishable by up to five years in prison and a $15,000 fine. 

 

House Bill 2087, introduced by state Rep. Dom Costa, D-Allegheny, would include school crossing guards as individuals protected by the aggravated assault statute.
