Kessler announces $78,000 in grants for Berks County, Exeter Township

OLEY, Jan. 3 – State Rep. David Kessler, D-Berks, announced that Berks County and Exeter Township have been awarded more than $78,000 in state recycling grants. Exeter was awarded $65,669 to enhance its recycling programs, and the Berks County Solid Waste Authority was awarded $12,555 to enhance its recycling drop-off centers.

“I commend the county and Exeter Township for their recycling efforts. Pennsylvania’s recycling industry includes more than 3,240 recycling and reuse businesses, and generates $18.4 billion in gross annual sales. It provides jobs for more than 81,000 people,” Kessler said.

The grants are provided to communities to increase the amount of material they recover and reuse, and to promote the growth of recycling in Pennsylvania, and the economic activity and job creation, energy conservation and reductions in pollution that come with it. More information about Pennsylvania’s recycling efforts is available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us.
