Mann’s ‘Arthritis Awareness Month’ resolution adopted in House
HARRISBURG, May 6 – State Rep. Jennifer L. Mann, D-Lehigh, said the House today adopted a resolution (H.R. 731) she sponsored designating May 2008 as "Arthritis Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
"Arthritis is the number-one cause of limited mobility for U.S. residents. It affects many lives, and it’s important that people learn more about this very common disease and that we support research for possible treatments or cures," Mann said.
Arthritis is a chronic disease that causes pain, swelling and limited movement in joints and connective tissue throughout the body. About 70 million Americans have some form of arthritis, and two-thirds of sufferers are women.
Mann said the disease costs the economy $86 billion each year in medical care and lost wages.
