Mann announces $51,942 in grant funding for local school districts
HARRISBURG, July 30 – State Rep. Jennifer Mann, D-Lehigh, announced that three school districts in her legislative district will receive Dual Enrollment grant funding to help students earn both high school and college credits simultaneously.
The school districts, which, combined, will receive more than $51,000, are: Allentown, $7,545; Lehigh Career and Technical Institute; $29,222; and Parkland, $15,175. "Preparing high school students for college is a top priority, and this program allows students to get a feel for real college courses," Mann said. "This program will give Pennsylvania high school students an edge in applying for college."
The Dual Enrollment program enables high school juniors and seniors to enroll in college-level courses and receive postsecondary credit for coursework.
The grants for 2008-09 were awarded to 370 school districts and 16 career and technical schools in 64 counties, nearly three-fourths of the state's 501 school districts. They will give students access to nearly 50,000 college courses in the coming school year.
