Mann introduces resolution to honor organization
working to stop domestic violence
HARRISBURG, Sept. 18 – State Rep. Jennifer L. Mann, D-Lehigh, has introduced a resolution that would commemorate a regional organization for its efforts to stop domestic violence.
House Resolution 889 would recognize Turning Point of Lehigh Valley Inc. for 30 years of working to eliminate domestic violence, increasing community awareness of domestic violence, and establishing shelter and support services for victims.
The organization has expanded over the years to provide emergency shelters, counseling and advocacy services throughout the Lehigh Valley. An outreach and community education program offers presentations to schools, medical professionals and others.
"Turning Point provides vital programs and services to people dealing with the physical and emotional trauma of domestic violence," Mann said. "We're very lucky to have an organization like this in the Lehigh Valley."
According to the Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
4.8 million intimate-partner rapes and physical assaults occur every year in the United States. Juveniles younger than 12 reside in half of the households where domestic violence occurs.
"When people need help the most, Turning Point is there," Mann said.
