Easton, Hellertown awarded grants for water/sewer improvements
HARRISBURG, July 17 – Rep. Bob Freeman announced that the Easton Area Joint Sewer Authority and Hellertown Borough Authority have been awarded grants to fund sewer and water system improvements.
"The H2O PA grants that Easton and Hellertown are receiving will go a long way to helping their customers and the communities they serve," Freeman said. "Properly maintaining water and sewer systems means the continued safety and health of those who use them, as well as the conservation of energy and resources, resulting in a positive environmental impact."
With its $1 million grant, the Easton Area Joint Sewer Authority aims to enhance operational performance of its anaerobic digester and replace a number of systems, in addition to installing new flow meters, a depth monitoring device and computer software to calculate flow.
Hellertown Borough Authority plans on using its $432,956 grant to make upgrades to its reservoir for protecting the water that's stored there and extend the facility's life. In addition, the borough will reestablish proper hydraulics and reinforce available fire flows, clean water mains, and replace some valves.
"The H2O PA grant program, which was implemented last year, goes a long way to help municipalities make needed improvements to their water and sewer systems -- improvements that might otherwise have to be paid for by local taxpayers," Freeman said.
Funds for these grants come from the H2O PA grant program, which provides grants to municipalities or municipal authorities to assist with the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects. The program is administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency that evaluates and administers funding for projects that create jobs and invest in the state’s financial growth.
