Grucela: Students should fill out FAFSA for college funding
MOUNT BETHEL, April 18 – State Rep. Richard Grucela, D-Northampton, is reminding area students and their families to fill out the 2008-09 Free Application for Federal Student Aid before the May 1 deadline.
Most colleges and universities use the FAFSA to determine student financial aid packages. The FAFSA is also the application used by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency to determine eligibility for State Grant funding.
FAFSA applications can now be filled out on the Internet. The U.S. Department of Education will only send a paper FAFSA to people who personally request one by calling 1-800-433-3243.
The FAFSA application is available online at www.pheaa.org/fafsa or www.fafsa.ed.gov. Typing these Web site addresses incorrectly could take people to sites that charge a fee to fill out the form. The official sites do not charge a fee.
Students should apply as soon as possible to help ensure meeting earlier financial aid deadlines that may be set by schools or other institutions.
Residents should contact Grucela's Nazareth or Mount Bethel constituent service offices at 1-888-222-2143, or 1-877-461-9336, respectively, for additional assistance.
