Galloway disgusted with House Rs silencing
Democratic efforts to strengthen driving laws
HARRISBURG, March 7 – State Rep. John Galloway released the following statement on House Republican procedural moves today that prevented House Democrats from improving a transportation bill so that it would have strengthened the state's driving laws:
"Republicans should be ashamed of their actions on the House floor today that prevented Democrats from amending House Bill 156 to strengthen our driving laws to make our roads safer for everyone.
"These amendments would have done such things as increase the number of hours teen drivers would have to spend behind the wheel before they could receive a license; reduce the number of passengers a young driver could have in his or her car; and disconnect drivers from their hand-held cell phones while behind the wheel. Public safety was not important to House Republicans who ruled each of these amendments not germane, meaning they could not be attached to the bill and voted on by the full House."
