Galloway warning of scam artists targeting local seniors
BRISTOL, April 9 – State Rep. John Galloway, D-Bucks, is warning that scam artists are targeting local senior citizens.
Galloway said several constituents have received phone calls where the caller claims to be from Medicaid or Medicare and tells them that they need to get new cards. They then try to get personal information from the constituent.
"Medicaid and Medicare are not calling local residents. That is a scam," Galloway said. "The sad fact is that senior citizens are favored targets for many types of crime and consumer fraud, especially identity theft. No one should ever give personal information out to someone who calls them."
Galloway would like any residents who receive one of these phone calls to report it to either his constituent service office in Bristol at 215-781-2451 or his Levittown office at 215-943-7206.
Residents may also visit Galloway's Web site at www.pahouse.com/Galloway for information on how to protect themselves from becoming victims of con artists, thieves and others who prey on senior citizens.
