Galloway congratulates local schools on 2009 Keystone Achievement awards
HARRISBURG, Nov. 20 – State Rep. John Galloway, D-Bucks, is congratulating several local schools for receiving the 2009 Keystone Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
"This award not only represents the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, support staff and parents to improve education, but also shows that state investments in education are paying off with brighter, better prepared students," Galloway said.
The Keystone Achievement Award recognizes schools that have shown sustained academic achievement over the past two school years. Local schools receiving 2009 Keystone Achievement Award include:
· Bristol Borough School District: Bristol Middle School,
· Morrisville Borough School District: Morrisville Borough Middle and Senior High School; Grandview Elementary School,
· Pennsbury School District: Afton Elementary School; Edgewood Elementary School; William Penn Middle School; Walt Disney Elementary School; Roosevelt Elementary School; Makefield Elementary School; Manor Elementary School; Oxford Valley Elementary School; Village Park School; Quarry Hill Elementary School.
Keystone Achievement Awards are given to public schools that achieved Adequate Yearly Progress in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years. AYP is determined, in part, by a school’s performance on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, the standardized test given annually to students in grades 3-8 and 11.
Each school that earns a Keystone Achievement Award receives a large, keystone-shaped placard that can be displayed at the school.
