King announces property tax relief estimates for Bucks County homeowners

LANGHORNE, May 2 – State Rep. Chris King, D-Bucks, announced today that slots gaming in Pennsylvania has generated enough revenue for area homeowners to share in nearly $613 million in school property tax relief this summer.

"This is a great first step toward shifting the school property tax burden off of local homeowners," King said. "I am pleased that residents in my legislative district will see their fair share of the gaming revenues."

The estimated school property tax relief per homeowner in Neshaminy School District is $217.

This relief is available for homeowners who have applied for and been granted a homestead/farmstead exemption. King said residents who are not sure whether they have the exemption, or who would like to apply to ensure future relief from gaming revenues, may contact the Bucks County Board of Assessment at 215-348-6219.

King noted that this is the first year of slots-funded relief and that since more gaming revenues are expected to be available next year, the amount of relief should be even greater. He also noted that homeowners will not receive their relief in the form of a check from the state, but instead will see the reduction on their school property tax bill.

Residents who work in Philadelphia will also receive a 5 percent reduction in their wage tax due to gaming revenues.

For more information on the Taxpayer Relief Act, King said residents can visit the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Web site at www.pde.state.pa.us/proptax.
